Non Fiction Children's Books

                While searching for some new books for my children to read, I started looking at nonfiction children's books.  My kids love facts.  They love learning about things that they can later share with other adults and children.  One of the most commonly used phrases that flies out of their little mouths is “Did you know” which is ultimately followed by some random fact that they picked up here or there.

                If you're kids are like mine and love knowledge, you may be search for some great non fiction children's books for them as well.  You can find them at book stores like Barnes and Noble or Borders Books but if you don't have the time to spend walking around a book store searching for exactly what you want, you can utilize the internet to find exactly what you need in as little time as possible.

                If you don't have a lot of money to spend on new books, you can check out a large selection of used non fiction children's books.  Powells.com has over four thousand used books that you can buy for a fraction of what it would cost you to get new books. 

Non Fiction Children's Books

                There are a million different types of non fiction children's books that you can purchase.  If your child is a little bit older, you might want to try a selection of biographies.  My kids love baseball my ten year old wanted to write his school report on Jackie Robinson.  After doing so, he started asking questions about why it was so controversial for such a great player to play professional baseball.  After talking to him about the Civil Rights movement, he wanted to know more.  Since then, he has read biographies on Martin Luther King, Sojourner Truth and Rosa Parks.  This is heavy material for a child but if you look for biographies in the children's section, the books that you find will break down the material so that it is easy for your children to understand.  These books don't always give the full picture of things like the Civil Rights Movement but they will encourage your children to ask questions.

                There are other great non fiction children's books that encourage your kids to engage in a little self awareness.  There are books on nutrition, biology and heritage.  If you want your children to start reading something that has a little substance, check out the nonfiction children's section.
